  1. 29 year old male with central abdominal pain which later moves to the right iliac fossa. He has not passed any stools, and has vomited.
  2. 21 year old overweight overworked medical student with burning sternal pain after eating, and when lying down.
  3. 23 year old female smoker with generalised abdominal pain which is tender on examination, diarrhoea, and weight loss. You notice a mass in her right iliac fossa, and that she feels warm to the touch.
  4. 43 year old alcoholic with sudden epigastric pain that radiates round to his back, and causes him to vomit. This is relieved a little bit by sitting forward.
  5. 72 year old overweight diabetic experiences crushing sternal pain at rest that doesn’t radiated anywhere. On examination, you note that his pulse is racing, and he appears sweaty, but cold.
  6. 40 year old overweight woman with right upper quadrant pain that “stabs” through to her shoulder. Her sclera appear a tad jaundiced, and Murphy’s sign is positive.
  7. 39 year old female with sudden onset stabbing pain which is poorly localised. She soon collapses and goes into shock
  8. 24 year old female with fever and worsening lower abdominal pain. Her last missed period was over 3 months ago.

  1. 77 year old male with 4 week history of dark stools that smell especially foul. He’s lost a lot of weight recently, and examination shows hepatomegaly, and low blood pressure.
  2. 19 year old female student with intermittent diarrhoea that has her running to the toilet. Sometimes her motions are mixed with mucous or blood. She also complains of abdominal cramps and fever, especially around busy coursework deadlines.
  3. 55 year old male smoker comes in for check-up. PR shows irregular surface, and blood on the glove afterwards.
  4. 21 year old male with abdominal cramps and loose, porridge-like stools, mixed with some blood. Frequency is intermittent- from a dozen times a day, to twice or less.
