Dermatological Examination

Primarily via Inspection, first ensure as much of the body is as exposed as possible:

Obvious abnormalities:

  • Site(location)
  • Symmetry/ distribution
  • Shape
  • Size
  • Surroundings (edge)
  • Surface (rough, smooth, raised)
  • Satelite Lesions
  • Colour

Detailed examination of

  • Nails
  • Mucous membranes

Assess each area of the body systematically, not forgetting inside the mouth and checking for any hair loss. Palpate for local lymphadenopathy in suspected cancer

Finish by taking a scraping for cytology.
